New technologies to fill in Moroccan development gap

Originally published

New technologies are a genuine "historic opportunity" for Morocco to catch up with developed countries, said economic adviser to the king, Andre Azoulay, in Bonn on Monday.

Talking to participants in a workshop of the international global development networks conference, Azoulay said financial and industrial operators show unprecedented interest for Morocco giving as evidence the total success the second GSM license was.

Azoulay underscored the kingdom's ability to integrate and develop new technologies, saying it has the potentials of a regional platform for all the new trades that will underlie development in the coming years. These technologies, he said, are changing behaviors, increasing competitiveness and knowledge, and strengthening information, the modern dimension and the network effect.

The global development networks conference of the World Bank and the UN system is part of the new approach to expectations from WB partners.

Some 600 experts working on development issues will interconnect to make up a worldwide research network to convene next year in Japan.
