Morocco calls for fair sharing of open trade fruits
Morocco called for a fair sharing of the fruits of an open international commercial system.
The call was made by Moroccan Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Mohamed Benaissa, in a message to the third ministerial conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), in Seattle, USA.
Benaissa, who is also acting chairman of the 9th ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 plus China, said the G-77 countries consider the liberalization of international trade within the WTO rules as a powerful force that will contribute to speeding up growth and development.
The foreign minister recalled that the G-77 latest meeting in Marrakesh (Morocco) played an active role in the preparation of the Seattle meeting. He added that the G-77 nations are resolved to apply liberal and open commercial policies that will integrate a development dimension.
Benaissa noted that the G-77 pointed out that several developing countries are still facing difficulties to integrate world economy and that they suffer from the side-effects of globalization. For these countries, globalization can contribute to laying down the foundations of a lasting and fair growth, if it is conveniently managed, he said.
Several developing countries request the Seattle meeting to examine the implementation of the Marrakesh accords and those of the WTO on multilateral trade, Benaissa added.
"The developing nations wish that the Marrakesh accords be fully implemented," he said.
