King Mohammed dedicates projects in northern town
King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid, on Thursday dedicated several development projects in the northern town of Tetuan.
The king gave the green light for the launching of the second phase of the national fibre optics program.
Under the second phase of the program, a 2,100 km long fibre optics network will be laid, including 700 km in the northern areas.
The first phase of the program was dedicated in 1995 in the rural commune of Shoul (near Rabat) by King Mohammed VI, then crown prince.
The king also dedicated in Tetuan a $1.5 million compound destined for young promoters. The compound includes a unit for assistance to help young promoters run their own investment projects, 55 premisses and a training center. The training center to teach young promoters how to prepare and present investment files is financed by the autonomous government of Andalucia.
King Mohammed VI also inaugurated an intercontinental submarine communication cable. The 39,000 km-long cable cost 1.5 billion.
The project, to be operational in 32 months, will ensure communication among 34 countries in Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Asia.
The king also dedicated in Tetuan a $1.5 million clinic with 31 beds, 25 medicare halls. The new medical center will provide health services in several specialties.
