Originally published

The United Nations General Assembly recommended that a meeting be held next year between the world body and the Organization of the Islamic Conference to consolidate cooperation between the two organizations.

The text, adopted without a vote, called the UN and all its bodies to extend the Jeddah-based Islamic organization technical assistance.

The OIC observer hailed the existing cooperation between the two organizations which have pledged to cooperate in seeking solutions to issues of peace, security, disarmament, human rights, economic and social development and technical cooperation.

Secretaries general of the OIC and UNO had met last October 1 and are carrying on efforts on several topics, including Palestine, the Middle East, Somalia, Kosovo and Sierra Leone.

He further deplored that his organization is not enjoying the same privileges granted to other missions accredited at the UN and called the UN executives to address this problem.
