Tarif meets with Syrian PA speaker

Originally published

The chairman of the Israeli delegation to the 102nd meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Berlin, Saleh Tarif, said in an interview with Israel Radio on Friday that he shook hands with the chairman of the Syrian delegation to this conference, Abdul Qader Qaddoura.

Tarif added that he also sat beside members of the Libyan delegation inside the conference hall and held talks with several representatives of the Arab delegations, saying this "meeting was a good opportunity to meet with those representatives."

Tarif, who is a member of the Israeli Knesset from the Arab list, returned on Thursday to Israel and added, "We have discussed in Berlin conference issues of concern to the peace process and the Middle East affairs."

He said the speech of the Israeli delegation was delivered in the Arabic language, a matter which gave a cozy and friendly atmosphere. He added: "I had talks with several Arab parliamentarians except with the representative of the Iraqi delegation who considers that there are no Arabs inside Israel."
