Sudanese teachers to retire at 65, lecturers at 70
General education teachers in Sudan have now been allowed to continue working until they are 65 years old, the pan-African news agency PANA reported.
Previously teachers were sent on compulsory retirement at age 60.
The new measure, now ratified into law by parliament, seeks to boost education with experienced teachers.
According to a statement by the house after adopting the measure, "the amendment is aimed at retaining qualified teachers and redressing the shortage in teaching cadres."
In the same vein, the retirement age for university lecturers was changed from 65 to 70.
