Thousands of Sudanese are homeless due to floods
Five persons were killed and thousands of people have become homeless following floods which hit the city of Um Durman this week.
The Sudanese daily al-Anbaa said on Wednesday that three persons were killed in Ambada in Um Durman when their houses collapsed, and the bodies of two children were found in the waters of the flood.
For its part, the Sudanese daily al-Rai al-Am said that some 33 schools were completely or partially destroyed while thousands of people are left homeless after the flood hit their houses.
The people who became homeless because of the flood asked to be provided with foodstuffs, tents and medicines, and the Sudanese ministry of the Interior has so far provided them with some 5,000 tents.
Heavy rainfall during the past two months in Sudan has resulted in floods in northern Sudan and killing two persons and destroying houses near the capital.
