Iraq's vice president calls on UN chief to interfere with Turkey

Originally published

Iraq's vice President Tareq Aziz has called on the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to interfere with Turkey to withdraw its forces from Northern Iraq.

The Iraqi daily al-Iraq quoted Aziz as saying in a message he addressed to Annan last Tuesday that the Turkish troops invaded Iraq backed by armored vehicles and tanks and by jet fighters, a matter which resulted in heavy casualties in people and properties in the invaded areas and other damages in public properties.

The Iraqi paper added that the series of the Turkish invasion operations to the Iraqi territories is but an assertion to the " double-standard policy " pursued by the Turkish government so as to implement the US-British schemes in North Iraq. Meantime, the Iraqi daily Babel issued today called on the US administration to deal with Iraq and to give up its " aggressive attitude." But the Iraqi paper expected that the " Americans will not give up their negative positions."
