Israel may release Palestinian prisoners today

Israeli officials said that Israel may release 151 Palestinian prisoners today according to conditions of the peace accords with the Palestinian government, yet it is dependent on the government's approval of the names in the list.

Hesham Abd El-Razek, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, said, "Palestinian and Israeli officials will convene later today to discuss releasing the prisoners."

Israeli Minister of General Security Shlomo Ben Ami said on Tuesday that Israel may have to adjust its criteria in order to release 151 prisoners.

The release of the prisoners comes after signing an agreement the day before yesterday to open a secure passage through Israel's lands to enable the Palestinians to move between Gaza and the West Bank.
