Sheikh Yassin calls on Jordanian king to stop measures against Hamas leaders

Originally published

The leader of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, has called on Jordan's King Abdullah to give up the measures taken by his government on Monday against the leaders of the movement in Amman and to deepen the relations with the movement and the Palestinian people in the interest of the cause of Palestine.

In a statement to reporters on Tuesday in Gaza, Sheikh Yassin added that closing down the movement's offices in Amman and releasing an order to arrest five of its members is part of the US steps to pressure the movement to force it to join the settlement process, "which we consider as a liquidation for the cause of Palestine."

He added that the measures taken against Hamas are rejected and unjustified. He noted contacts between leaders of the movement in Jordan with the Jordanian government in this regard, saying, "Hopefully, these contacts will be fruitful."

He continued that the Jordanian measures fall in the context of the "bill to be submitted to Albright during her visit to the region."

Worth mentioning that the Jordanian court on Monday issued arrest warrants for four leaders of the Hamas movement for illegal activities in Jordan. The leaders are now in Tehran.
