Jordan criticizes appointment of former Mossad head as peace process supervisor

Originally published

Jordan criticized yesterday the decision to appoint Danny Yatoum, the former head of the Israeli intelligence body, the Mossad, as the head of a follow-up committee between the Jordanians and Israelis.

Israel on Thursday announced that reserve Gen. Dani Yatoum. Mossad's former chairman was appointed as head of the follow up committee for the peace process with Jordan. Yatoum had earlier provoked the anger of the Jordanian authorities when he planned the foiled assassination attempt of the chairman of the political bureau of the Hamas movement Khaled Mishal.

Mahmud El-Kharabsha, head of the legal committee and national movement in the Jordanian deputies council, described the Israeli decision as a violation of simple moral rules and as showing disregard for Jordanians' feelings.

Yatoum became involved in an attempt to assassinate Khaled Mishal, the head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement in Jordan in 1997.
