Lebanese premier confers with US congress member
Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss on Tuesday in Beirut received a member of the US Congress from the Democratic Party representing the state of Ohio, Marcy Kaptur. Present at the meeting was the US charge d 'affairs in Lebanon, David Hail.
Talks dealt with the situation in the region, and bilateral relations between Lebanon and the US.
Al-Hoss expressed his hope that the US will help Lebanon in the economic field in order to eliminate its current economic bottleneck
Following the meeting, Kaptur explained that her visit falls in the course of getting to know about Lebanon.
She added that it is difficult to help Lebanon by the traditional means because certain US leaders have "regrettably" conservative views and are not open to helping other countries.
She added, "I have concentrated with Dr. al-Hoss on finding out other means of offering backing to Lebanon, especially in the areas of agriculture and other development projects."
Kaptur has a post on the agriculture committee of the US congress.
