King Abdullah to visit Kuwait on September 6
A Kuwaiti daily on Thursday quoted the chief of the Jordanian royal court, Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti, as saying that King Abdullah II of Jordan will hold his first visit to Kuwait on September 6.
Al-Kabareiti told al-Qabas that this first visit to be paid by a Jordanian king to Kuwait since the Gulf crisis in 1990 will "give a new impetus to relations between the two countries."
Al-Kabareiti arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday in order to prepare for the visit of King Abdullah. He gave Emir Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah a message from the Jordanian king pertaining to "prospects for bilateral cooperation."
Relations between Kuwait and Amman which became strained during the Gulf crisis (August 1990 - February 1991) were restored to normalcy last March with the reopening of the Jordanian embassy in Kuwait.
Kuwait had accused Amman of siding with Iraq during its invasion of Kuwait. Thousands of Jordanians and Palestinians were obliged to leave Kuwait after its liberation and only 40,000 of them are still working there.
