Baghdad calls for lifting sanctions

Originally published

Iraq renewed yesterday its call on the United Nations for the immediate lifting of sanctions imposed on the country nine years ago.

Iraqi sources said that the sanctions resulted in destructive effects on the health, social and economic states of the country.

The Iraqi government accused the USA and Britain of spoiling the UN's charter by insisting on continuing the sanctions.

Meanwhile, Baghdad laid the responsibility for the increasing number of deaths of children among Iraqis on Washington and London.

In a report UNICEF has announced that the death rate of Iraqi children increased by 2.5 times over what it was 10 years ago, due to the retreat of children's services.
