One of three arrested Hamas leaders released

The Palestinian Authority released Hamas leader Ismael Abu Shanab, who was arrested at the end of last week.

Sources from Hamas told ArabicNews.com that the Palestinian Authority questioned him about statements he made during a television interview, in which he called for armed struggle against Israel.

The Palestinian police are still detaining two other Hamas leaders arrested on Saturday: Abd El-Aziz El-Rantisi and Ahmed Nimir.

The Palestinian authority said Abu Shanab and the two other leaders were arrested for security reasons after the Ezz El-Deen El-Qassam battalions, the military wing of Hamas, announced that Abu Shanab is responsible for the shooting that took place in El-Khalil last Tuesday, in which two residents of Jewish settlements were injured.
