Algeria: ending the occupation of the Mauritania embassy
Algerian security forces on Wednesday rescued members of the Mauritania embassy in Algeria who were held by Mauritanian students for three days.
The interference of the Algerian security forces came at the request of the Mauritanian Foreign Ministry after the students occupied the embassy of their country and seized the cultural attache, the first chancellor at the embassy and two members of protocol in protest of their conditions, which they described as deteriorating as a result of delays in receiving their scholarships and the embassy's lack of attention.
One of the students said, "One of my colleagues died recently in Wahran, west Algeria and the embassy even did not care, and as a result students raised funds to return the body to Mauritania."
The Mauritanian ambassador is on a vacation outside Algeria.
