Mauritian Inventor Wins Africa Award 99
A Mauritian inventor, Jerome Carcasse, has won the gold medal for the best African inventor for 1999 in the junior category.
Carcasse, 24, developed a machine capable of producing electricity from sea waves and wind.
He received his prize in Algiers Tuesday during the OAU summit, which ended Wednesday.
The competition is organized jointly by the OAU and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
He said his invention is a mechanism and process of a mechanical energy accumulator.
"The machine is non polluting and does not need any fuel to operate, neither big investment," he added.
