Arab Businessmen's Council joins AL's membership

Originally published

The Arab League's council of delegates have agreed upon the membership Arab Businessmen's Council in the AL, after changing the name of the council to the Arab Businessmen's Union because the league's charter doesn't allow membership for councils but for unions only.

The Arab Businessmen's council was formed in 1997 as the Arab substitute to the economic MidEastern conferences. The council held three meetings, the first in Amman in 1997, the second in Luxor in 1998 and the third in Marrakech this year.

The union is chaired by the Jordanian outgoing minister Hamdy El-Tabbah and the Jordanian secretary general Taher El-Thabet. Ismael Othaman represents the Egyptian side in the Union's board of directors.
