Moroccan lorry drivers end strike
Moroccan lorry drivers announced on Friday an end to a strike they have been observing for two weeks to protest a decision to outfit on lorries a device that monitors the speed, energy-consumption and trip duration.
The decision was made following a meeting with the Ministry of Transport and Merchant Navy which agreed to grant to lorry owners an exceptional three-month deadline, expiring on October 1, to equip their vehicles with speed recorders.
The compulsory device is part of a strategy to reduce traffic accidents which reached in 1998 40,782 accidents killing 3,242 persons.
