Saudi Arabia urges India, Pakistan to end conflict peacefully
Saudi Arabia urged India and Pakistan on Monday to settle their conflict over Kashmir peacefully in accordance with U.N resolutions.
"We urge the two countries to resolve the conflict through peaceful means," information Minister Fuad Al-Farsi said after the weekly cabinet meeting, chaired by Crown Prince Abdullah.
Al-Farsi was quoted by the state-run News Agency (SPA) as calling on U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan to "interfere to resolve the Indo-Pakistani conflict through peaceful means to preserve international peace and security."
Pakistan's foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz visited India last Saturday and presented his country's proposals towards ending the conflict, but India insisted that Pakistan hands over infiltrators from Indian-controlled Kashmir before any dialogue could be launched between the two countries.
The conflict over Kashmir erupted last month as forces of the two countries engaged into military confrontations.
The international community has expressed profound worry over the indo-pakistani conflict and urged the two countries to resort to self-restraint.
