Sudanese information minister visits Asmara

Sudanese dailies published on Sunday reported that Sudanese Information Minister Ghazi Salaheddine al-Atbani on Friday night arrived from Eritrea after he delivered a message to President Assyas Afworki from Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir, dealing with matters suspended between the two countries.

The papers quoted the Sudanese minister as saying the visit was "successful" and aimed at preparing for the forthcoming meetings between officials in the two countries.

He stated that he discussed with his Eritrean counterpart, Haile Weldensae, bilateral relations and that concentration was on security matters and means of settling them.

This visit, announced only after al-Atbani arrived back in Khartoum, coincided with the meetings held by leaders of the Sudanese Democratic National Alliance on Thursday in Asmara to review means of initiating a dialogue with the government on national reconciliation.
