3000-year-old ancient Egyptian temple unearthed
An ancient Egyptian temple, Horus, has been unearthed by an expedition of the Supreme Council for Antiquities (SCA) at east Qantara, North Sinai, 3 kilometers east of Suez Canal.
The importance of the find lies in that it indicates the location of Tharo City and the ancient Hours military road between Egypt and Palestine, i.e. the discovery indicates Egypt's eastern gate, a statement said.
"The temple dates back to the age of the modern dynasties, i.e. three thousand years ago," said SCA Secretary-General Dr. Gaballah Ali Gaballah, pointing out that a number of statues of Pharaonic gods and kings made of granite were found in the temple.
Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni, SCA Chairman, approved allocating L.E. 250 thousand to complete the excavation and rehabilitate the temple.
