Sudanese official delegation visits Libya, Sudanese civil rights activist released

Libyan television broadcast that a Sudanese official delegation chaired by Sudanese Minister of Culture and Information Ghazi Salah al-Din arrived yesterday in Tripoli to hold talks with Libyan officials.

Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi announced last March that he intends to accelerate the mediation between the government and opposition in Sudan.

Meanwhile, in Khartoum, a Sudanese court released the lawyer Ghazi Seliman, the leader of the National Alliance for Restoring Democracy, after an event -- the first of its kind in the history of Sudanese judiciary -- where the court agreed that release the accused lawyer based on his lawyer's pledge that he would not involve himself for a period of two years as he did in the past in defiant acts against governmental security bodies where these bodies request lawyers to appear before them for interrogation about their promotions of civil rights.

Seliman who insists that the government obey the law and live by rules rejected the pledge offered on his behalf by his lawyer, saying it contradicts the law and human rights, but his lawyer did not adhere to Seliman's objection, and he presented the pledge to the court, which released Seliman and halted his imprisonment for a year.
