Zinni rejects armament of Iraqi opposition

Commander of the US forces in the Middle East, Gen Anthony Zinni said in a statement issued on Wednesday by the British daily the Independent and quoted by the BBC in London that he opposes the idea of arming the Iraqi opposition groups and providing them with military aid.

Gen. Zinni added that there is nobody in the Arab region who supports the idea of arming these Iraqi groups. He added that arming these groups may constitute a gamble in the "already intensified region."
