AL chief warns against Barak's 'Nos'

Originally published

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid warned that the "nos" of new Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak do not serve the Middle East peace process. He stressed that peace cannot be attainable in the region without the restoration "of the occupied Arab lands in the Golan, south Lebanon and Palestine."

In a statement he made in Cairo on Sunday the AL chief called on the new Israeli government to resume negotiations on the Syrian track from the point at which they broke off and to implement obligations and commitments that provide for complete withdrawal from the Golan.

He asserted the Arab states' rejection of an "incomplete peace" with Israel. He stressed that the implementation of UN resolutions 242, 338 and 425 is the only way to reach a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
