Al-Sharaa confers with Moratinos

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa yesterday received the European Union's Middle East peace process special envoy Miguel Angel Moratinos and members of the accompanying delegation. Talks dealt with the current conditions in the region and the role played by the EU concerning the deadlocked Middle East peace.

In this regard, Moratinos briefed al-Sharaa on his own evaluation of results of the Israeli elections. He expressed his conviction that the coming government of Ehud Barak will resume peace talks on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks from the point at which they broke off.

Al-Sharaa stressed Syria's position concerning the Middle East peace process and its readiness to resume talks from the point at which they broke off.
