Russia studies resuming weapons exports to Libya

Originally published

The chairman of the Russian state-run Rosphore and Jenie "establishment for weapons exports" has asserted that his country is preparing to resume military cooperation with Libya.

He stated that a delegation from the establishment is currently visiting Tripoli, Libya. The establishment's chairman, Georgy Rabbout, said there are now "good prospects," but he refused to identify the nature of weapons that might be exported to Libya.

Russian President Boris Yeltsin had earlier released a decree permitting the resumption of cooperation with Libya in light of the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council to suspend the embargo that used to be imposed on Libya after a settlement for the Lockerbie issue.
