Israel escalates aggression against south Lebanon

Originally published

Israeli warplanes on Sunday evening continued their raids against areas north of the occupied part of south Lebanon.

Lebanese security sources said the Israeli planes twice raided the western Bekaa and dropped six air-to-surface missiles on the area located between the town of Zibqin and al-Butoum mountain. Damage was inflicted on houses, the sources said, adding that the Lebanese resistance fired Sam missiles against the raiding planes while Lebanese army anti-aircraft guns fired shots.

The Lebanese sources said Israeli planes, earlier in the day, carried out several raids against the towns of Ein Buswar and Mleita in al-Tuffah district. Meantime, Lebanese resistance men attacked, using rockets and machine guns, two military positions held by Israeli troops and their South Lebanon Army militia allies in Hadatha and Belt Yahoun inside the occupied zone. In a statement the Lebanese resistance said the two positions were directly hit.

The statement added a group of Lebanese resistance fighters also attacked a militia force patrolling along the Sujoud al-Rayhan road. Further reports from south Lebanon said the Israeli occupation forces stormed the town of Houla and searched houses after collecting owners in the main square of the town. Furthermore, the Israeli occupation forces on Sunday evening escalated their attacks on areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon.

Lebanese security sources said Israeli artillery bombarded a number of towns and villages in the western Bekaa and al-Tuffah district. A number of houses were damaged as a result of the heavy shelling which targeted the towns of Suhmour, Yuhmour, Zibqin, Kara, Yater, Majdal Zoun and Jib Sweid al-Hamra and Aqmata farms, the woods of Sujoud and al-Rayhan and the flow of the Litani and Habboush rivers.

The Israeli bombardment coincided with heavy machine gun shots fired against the front lines of the western and central sectors, while Israeli warplanes were carrying out provocative raids over south Lebanon and the western Bekaa.
