Paper calls for reviewing Arab coordinating stances
The Jordanian daily al-Dustour called on Wednesday for reviewing Arab coordination frameworks which have flourished in recent years and were mere substitutes for a pan-Arab meeting.
The paper added that among the framework debated for revision is the tripartite Egyptian - Saudi - Syrian meeting, which was kept as tripartite despite a temporary expansion in al-Ghardaqa and Cairo (including Oman and Yemen) prior to the consultative meeting of the Arab Foreign ministers in January.
The paper added that such frameworks are no longer justified following such flourishing relations between Amman and Riyadh, Damascus and Cairo. The paper continued among these frameworks are also the Damascus Declaration formula or the group of 6 & 2 (The Gulf states (6), plus Syria and Egypt).
The paper called for thinking of the possibility of restoring a form of five-member meeting, which eventually would necessitate correcting the relation between Damascus and the PLO since Damascus agreed not to make of the Wadi Araba agreement a pretext in its relations with Jordan, it is logical then that the Oslo agreement will not be a pretext for continued disputes between the Syrian and Palestinian leaders.
The paper concluded by saying, "We hope such a revision in inter-Arab relations will be made very soon without our being obliged to wait for the death of a generation of leaders and the coming of a new generation instead."
