Legal and diplomatic maneuvers on the 1988 Lockerbie incident in Scotland were completed on Wednesday to mark the beginning of a phase of a very long wait to try the two Libyans the West claims are involved in the incident.

A spokeswoman for the British Ministry for Scottish Affairs said from Zest camp in Holland, where the trial will take place that nothing new will emerge until next week as the two Libyans will be brought before the court according to Scottish law by next Thursday. The spokeswoman added that the situation will remain so until the beginning of the trial, which may take months to start.

Following the hearing session which will be held next week, lawyers from the two sides will be given a period of 110 days to prepare their papers, but it is expected the defense will ask for a longer period of time.

The two Libyans face charges of deliberate killing and violating the aviation safety law, drawn in 1982. But the two Libyans Abdul Basset al-Miqrahi (47) and al-Amin Khaleifa Fheima (43) are persistent that they are not guilty and deny the charges addressed to them.
