Jordanian appreciation for al-Assad's visit to Amman
Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament Abdul Hadi al-Majali has expressed Jordan's appreciation for the visit paid by President Hafez al-Assad to Amman where he offered condolences on the death of King Hussein.
In a statement to the BBC, al-Majali expressed his hope that this visit will contribute to improving relations between Syria and Jordan. Al-Majali denied reports of statements by King Abdullah saying that Iran constitutes a danger to the Arab Gulf states.
Al-Majali added, "I have learnt from the royal court that these statements are deformed and to debate such an issue at the current conditions has only adverse impact."
Al-Majali added, "We want to have good relations with Iran," noting that Iran is a neighboring country which tries to show its neighbors and the world that it is a friendly country.
He added, "We do not want to be in odd terms with any other country, therefore, it is strategic in our policy to preserve good relations with our neighbors and the Islamic countries."
