Originally published

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid has discussed with the chairman of the PLO political department, Farouk al-Qaddoumi, who took part in the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers held on Sunday in Cairo, the Middle East peace process and the stalemate it has reached.

Abdul Meguid stated that talks dealt with the results of the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers and the mechanism for moving to contain the adverse consequences resulting from the withdrawal of the Iraqi delegation from the meeting.

The AL chief added that talks with al-Qaddoumi deal with means of future Arab initiatives to be made by the follow up ministerial committee, established by the Arab foreign ministers to move on the international level to lift economic sanctions imposed on Iraq.

He explained that the ministerial committee, chaired by Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa, will hold a meeting soon in Damascus to discuss the "practical future move plan" with the UN Security Council in order to alleviate the sufferings and the economic sanctions imposed on the Iraqi people.
