Moroccan public health workers postpone strike

Originally published

Moroccan public health workers, medicaids and physicians decided on Monday to postpone the two-day strike and march they were planning to stage this January 27 and 28.

Unionists said they decided to defer their protest movement after the meeting they held with health minister Abdelouhed El-Fassi.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed on the physicians statute, the workers internal promotion and health hazards allowances.

They also agreed to set up a committee to identify eligibility to the allowances and pledged to maintain dialogue for the settlement of the other pending issues.

The public health sector -- which counts over 4,000 physicians and 25,500 para-medical workers-- were planning to observe this month another strike to protest the deterioration of their work and financial situation.
