Lebanon intensifies contacts with UN Security Council over south Lebanon
Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss on Thursday discussed with the charge d'affairs at the US embassy in Beirut, David Hale, current contacts to limit any Israeli attacks against the Lebanese territories.
In a press statement following the meeting, Hale said that Washington is contacting the governments of countries concerned with the situation in south Lebanon to use maximum self control and avoid escalation.
Hale denied conveying any message to the Lebanese Premier Salim al-Hoss from US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Meanwhile al-Hoss on Thursday continued following up on the developments in south Lebanon through his contacts with sides concerned inside and outside Lebanon, especially the Lebanese diplomatic corps accredited at the UN and the UN Security Council's five permanent member states.
Al-Hoss warned against Israeli aggressive intentions towards south Lebanon.
