Yemen renews call for Arab summit over Iraq

Originally published

Yemen renewed Wednesday its call for an Arab summit to examine "the US-British aggression against Iraq."

Yemeni news agency, SABA, quoted an official at the Foreign Ministry as saying it is necessary to hold an emergency Arab summit to examine the attacks against Iraq and the challenges facing Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh discussed the idea in phone talks he held with the Saudi crown prince and the president of the United Arab Emirates.

Arab diplomatic sources said Arab League Secretary General, Esmat Abdul Meguid, will convene next Friday a "consultative" meeting of Arab foreign ministers to examine the Yemeni request.
