AL for convening Arab summit; Security Council begins discussions
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid stressed that Yemen's call to convene an Arab summit came at the adequate and proper time amid the current Arab conditions.
In an interview with the BBC on Monday, Abdul Meguid added that the decision to convene such a summit would be made by Arab leaders. Abdul Meguid noted the statement issued by the AL following the US-British military strike against Iraq and described it as the "fastest and strongest statement ever released during the said aggression."
Replying to a question on whether there are guarantees not to repeat such operations against Iraq, Abdul Meguid said: "I think that both Britain and the US will take into account the stances and reactions of Arab governments and peoples. I do not think the aggression will be repeated once again against Iraq."
