Kuwait to host Afro-Arab coordination meeting
The Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am quoted a source at the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry as saying that Kuwait will host in the second half of January 1999 an Afro-Arab coordination meeting at the invitation of Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad.
The source added that the meeting was approved during October 1998, when Sheikh Sabah met with Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid and Organization of African Unity Secretary General Salem Ahmad Salem, discussing with them means of reactivating cooperation between the Arab world and the African continent during Sheikh al-Sabah's visit to New York to attend the meetings of the UN General Assembly.
The source elaborated that it was agreed during the meeting to invite the foreign minister of Burkina Faso, whose country is presiding over the current rotating presidency of the OAU and the secretaries of the AL and the OAU to visit Kuwait in the second half of January to discuss means of reactivating the coordination committee between the Arab world and the African continent in its coming meeting in Burkina Faso in February 1999.
