Jordanian parties oppose decision to prevent Jordanians from taking part in Palestinian conference in Damascus

Originally published

The higher coordination committee of the Jordanian opposition parties described the Jordanian government's decision to prevent Jordanian party leaders and political figures from attending the Palestinian National Conference recently held in Damascus as a "violation of human rights of the Jordanians."

In a statement issued in Amman on Tuesday, the Jordanian opposition parties said the prevention was carried out in the framework of arbitrary measures.

The Jordanian authorities, the statement added, demanded those "nationalist figures" check in at police stations and criminal departments.

The statement also denounced the Jordanian security forces' arrest of a number of political figures and party members who expressed their opposition to amending the Palestinian National Charter.

The statement also called for the "immediate release of the detained citizens and for halting all forms of arbitrary practices conducted by the Jordanian security forces, especially house-arrest campaigns."
