President al-Assad confers with EU ME peace envoy

President Hafez al-Assad on Sunday received the EU Middle East peace process special envoy Miguel Angel Moratinos and members of the accompanying delegation for talks on the Middle East peace process and efforts being exerted to forward it.

The EU envoy stressed the EU's desire to play an effective role in the quest of peace in the region. The Syrian President said that Syria always supports an active EU role in favor of a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
