US delegation describes visit to Syria as constructive
The executive director of the World Affairs Councils of America, Jerry Leach, has described his current visit to Syria as constructive and useful, and would contribute to making the American people better able to understand what is going on in the Middle East region."
In a news conference held in Damascus at the conclusion of the visit Leach and a WAC delegation paid to Syria, Leach said the visit "would also contribute to explaining Syria's point of view towards the hoped-for peace in the region."
He added, "We think we did good work. Members of the delegation go back home carrying excellent impressions they never have before the visit."
He added, "Talks and meetings held with the delegation in Syria were a chance to know about Syria's view point and what is really going on in the Middle East."
He expressed his hope that the ME peace process would be resumed on the Syrian track for building a genuine peace in the region.
The World Affairs Councils of America is a non-governmental organization, which Leach said will "try to build the understanding that we think is important in the minds of the American people and that, of course, becomes the basis upon which American foreign policy is formulated."
