EU envoy summarizes the EU's role in the ME peace process
During his visit to Amman this week, the European Union's special envoy for the Middle East peace process, Miguel Moratinos, said the EU already has a role in the Middle East and that the actions the EU can undertake will give new momentum to the Middle East peace process.
At a press conference on December 9, Moratinos said the EU's involvement could be summarized as follows: "to guarantee and monitor the implementation of the Wye River Memorandum, to try to reactivate negotiations on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks, and to work on finding a framework for the EU's involvement in the final status negotiations."
Moratinos met this week in Amman with Jordan's Crown Prince Hassan, as well as Jordan's prime minister and foreign minister, leaving for the Palestinian territories to hold talks with Yasser Arafat.
