OIC calls for lifting sanctions from Iraq, Libya and Sudan

Originally published

The secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Azeddine Laraki, confirmed his support for diplomatic efforts aimed at lifting sanctions and embargoes from such Islamic countries as Iraq and Libya.

Concluding his two-day visit to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, yesterday Laraki said the circumstances leading to sanctions differ from one country to another and that the OIC is standing with international legitimacy (ie supports UN resolutions).

He denied that the OIC is seeking a mechanism for solving disputes between Islamic countries, adding that the policies of the organization are confined to adopting peaceful relations between its members, achieving great success in this concern.
