AIDS spread limited in the Mediterranean, not so in Africa

Originally published

The regional director for the World Health Organization for the Middle East, Dr. Hussein al-Jazeiri, has stressed that countries of the Mediterranean basin are less vulnerable to be infected by AIDS due to the commitment of their societies to religious and moral values.

In a statement to Monte Carlo radio on Tuesday, al-Jazeiri noted that the campaign in Africa to combat AIDS is facing difficulties due to limitations on financial resources. He stressed that prevention is a much better approach than treatment for fighting this disease. He said, "I do not think that treatment in itself is a basic factor in fighting AIDS, in general."

Today is the World Day on Combating AIDS, which has claimed the lives of many people, especially in Africa, due to the lack of health and social awareness.
