Afworki confers with Abdul Meguid on Arab world and Africa
Eritrean President Assyas Afworki arrived in Cairo on Saturday for a two-day visit, during which he held talks with Arab League Secretary-General Abdul Meguid.
Afworki said his country's joining of the Arab League was a matter of political decision and that the decision will be taken at the right time.
Afworki added that the problem between Eritrea and Ethiopia arises from the expansionist practices of the Ethiopian regime and the "insurmountable conditions they set to encircle us and make our territory an object of bargaining."
Afworki expressed his hope that the differences between the two countries can be settled peacefully by the mediation of the Organization of African Unity.
Afworki said he has tackled with Abdul Meguid the issues related to the African Horn region, the Mediterranean and the border issue between Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as Yemeni - Eritrean relations after the settlement of a dispute over the Hanish islands, and how Djibouti broke off diplomatic ties with Eritrea on November 18.
