Report: Israel considers striking Lebanese infrastructure
The Jordanian daily al-Arab al-Youm said on Sunday in a report from London and quoting Western reports that Israel is preparing to strike the Lebanese infrastructure in a way to cover electricity generation, and water filtering stations, roads and bridges as well Beirut airport installations.
The paper added that some 50 Israeli F-15 and F-18 warplanes are on alert to start as of an expected date or within the coming 48 hours to deal a violent and strong blow to the Lebanese economic infrastructure, similar to the Israeli invasion of Beirut in 1982.
The paper quoted the British daily the Times as saying, quoting its military sources in Tel Aviv, that there is a strong call in the lines of ministers, deputies and army leaders in Israel to expand the coming strike to target the Syrian troops in the Lebanese territories and even interior Syrian military positions near Damascus in an attempt to compel the Syrians and the Lebanese to agree to conditions imposed by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, to the Israeli defense and foreign ministers, Mordechai and Sharon concerning the implementation of UN resolution 425.
