US counter terrorism official to visit Damascus this week
A Syrian official source confirmed to ArabicNews.com that the Coordinator of Counter Terrorism at the US State Department Christopher Ross will visit Damascus on the 6th of the current month, according to the call of the Syrian side.
The London-based daily al-Hayat reported on Sunday that Ross will meet with the Syrian Foreign minister Farouk al-Sharaa and high ranking Syrian officials. The paper continued that Ross's visit comes just several days following the Adanah agreement between Turkey and Syria.
The paper quoted diplomatic sources as saying that Ross' talks in Damascus will deal with removing Syria's name on the US list of terrorism-sponsoring countries, noting that Damascus hopes that talks with the US official will prepare for lifting Syria's name from the list since the US has no tangible evidence that Syria is linked to any terrorist act since the year 1986.
