Moroccan association calls for end to Iraqi people's sufferings

Originally published

The Moroccan National Committee of Support to the Iraqi People, a non-governmental organization, called on the international community to work for an end to the sufferings of the Iraqi people and to "behaviors that violate legality and basic principles of international law."

In a statement released following a meeting last week and published by leftist daily "Al Ittihad Al-Ichtiraki," the committee draws the international community's attention to the need to pay a particular interest to the tragic situation experienced by the Iraqi people, who are facing an embargo that jeopardizes the present and the future of Iraqi children.

The committee, which comprises political and trade union leaders, called the UN secretary general and the Security Council's member countries to end "repeated exactions" of the UNSCOM in the discharge of its duties and endeavor for the respect of the UN relevant resolutions.

The committee also invited the Security Council to conduct an objective and global assessment of reports on the dismantling of weapons of mass destruction and endeavor for the activation of the UN decision concerning the lifting of the embargo.

The committee further denounced "doubtful and immature acts" by the US administration, "meant to undermine Iraq's security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity."

It further calls the Moroccan public opinion to mobilize for the lifting of the unfair embargo imposed on Iraq and carry on the support and solidarity campaign with the Iraqi people.
