Moroccan court sentences gang chief to capital punishment
A Moroccan court last weekend sentenced one of the chiefs of a notorious gang that was very active in the Atlas mountain region to capital punishment.
Amekhchoun Driss and his criminal ring were found guilty of armed assaults, abductions, theft and rape.
One of the gang members, Mohamed Ouazzou (alias Boulouhouch) received life sentence while four others were condemned to jail terms ranging between 2 and 30 years.
The gang, which sowed terror and fear throughout the Atlas Mountain region, was dismantled in 1997 after a widespread police man-hunt.
