Yemen and Qatari signed yesterday an agreement in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, that calls for forming a joint ministerial committee to address commercial, economic and investment cooperation in addition to joint cultural and police coordination.

On the Yemeni side, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Abdul Qader Bajmal, signed the agreement, and Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Jabir al-Thani signed the agreement for Qatar.

The Qatari foreign minister met on Saturday with Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to deliver a message from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. He discussed with Saleh methods of enhancing bilateral relations and conveyed to Saleh the congratulations of Qatar for resuming the Yemeni sovereignty over the Hanish Islands.

Sheikh Hamad left Sanaa heading to Asmara where he met with Eritrean President Assyas Afworki and handed him a message from the Emir of Qatar concerning bilateral relations between the two countries.
