Morocco hosts international conference on satellite technologies in natural disasters prevention

Originally published

Morocco plays host this October 26-30 to an international conference on the role of satellite technologies in the early warning against natural disasters.

The Conference, to be attended by delegates from 56 African and Mideastern countries, is organized by the Moroccan Posts department in collaboration with the United Nations and the European Space Agency.

"The satellite technologies can prevent natural catastrophes such as floods, tornados, volcano eruptions and earthquakes," says a communique released by the organizers.

"Developing countries can use these technologies for disasters prevention and for a better management of their natural resources," the organizers added.

The recommendations to be adopted by the conference will be submitted to the 3rd UN conference on the peaceful use of space technologies (UNISPACE III) due in Vienna in 1999.
